Superstudio: Wilmington Rising Tides (Spring 2014)
UNC Charlotte SoA Superstudio: NC Coastal Cities Project–Wilmington Rising Tides
MUD 6102 Advanced Urban Design Studio + ARCH 4102 Architecture Topic Studio Spring 2014
This studio explored the future of North Carolina coastal cities in light of rising global sea levels. As sea levels rise, cities like Wilmington, NC will face significant challenges. Rising sea levels will change that city’s relationship to its coastal edge and this represents an opportunity to develop green and resilient infrastructure and urban forms that can withstand future climate changes. Through the use of innovative mapping techniques, students from both the Master of Urban Design Program and the School of Architecture examined the impacts of changing coastal patterns and the opportunities that cities may have to both address climate change and to strengthen urban form.
