Pro-bono Collaboration with Perkins + Will
In the fall of 2008, we helped connect the pro-bono design initiatives of the Charlotte office of Perkins + Will to the needs of the Latin American Coalition. Perkins + Will were asked to work the LAC in order to determine if their current and future uses could be adequately accommodated within an existing structure located at 4938 Central Avenue.
This request was made because it was felt that a unique opportunity had presented itself in the form of a motivated seller, possible creative financing, and an on-going desire on the part of the organization to find a permanent home. Previous research performed by the Charlotte Community Design Studio, which was the predecessor of the DSRC, indicated that the Central Avenue corridor would be an appropriate location for the organization’s future home given the area’s growing Latino population. Perkins + Will’s study identified three potential options for the existing building.
